What do I need?

As a new teacher, I am curious to know what are some must haves to get started? I am in a unique situation since I will be coming in to take over for a teacher who is retiring early and I do not know what she will leave behind for me. If you have any advice for a new teacher I would really appreciate it.

The best news

Welcome to my blog. My goal is to use this as a communication tool for my experiences in the classroom as a new teacher. On Friday December 16th, I had my first interview for a teaching position at Pine Island Public Schools. Following the interview I had a very good feeling that I would be hearing back from the district. On Monday December 19th, I received a call from the school district with the news that I had hoped for. Beginning January 18th I will be working at Pine Island Elementary School. I am very excited for this opportunity to work so close to home and in a school district I am familiar.
In the past four months, I have learned so much from the great staff at Kenyon-Wanamingo and Zumbrota-Mazeppa School districts while student teaching. I am grateful for the guidance and support I have received.
